Rachel Gann

I’m Rachel Smith Gann. Originally from Dallas, I spent my teenaged years in Waco where I met my husband Randall Gann, when I was 16. In 2008, we bought our first house in Mineola and were married in the backyard. To say we created a “home” in that house is an understatement. We had home births for both of our children there and I stayed home as a full-time mom and homeschool teacher. After a somewhat nomadic childhood of my own with poverty and homelessness, that house truly was the first “home” I’d ever known so it and Mineola will always hold a special place in my heart.

Although I’ve only ever lived in Mineola and Hideaway in east Texas, our homeschool journey has connected us to co-operative groups in Hawkins and Big Sandy, and we have family and friends in Edgewood, Winona, Mineola, Marshall, Tyler, Canton and beyond so I’ve made personal connections throughout the piney woods of East Texas for the past 15 years.

Now a resident of Hideaway Lake, my favorite pastime is a day spent at the neighborhood lake and swimming pool with my husband and children followed by a night of singing Karaoke at the Hideaway Lake Clubhouse.

I love gardening outdoors and creating a landscape to make a house feel like home from the first impression on the exterior as well as bringing the outdoors indoors with houseplants. I have as many houseplants as I can at any given time and Pothos, monstera, money plant, ferns and elephant ears are just a few of my favorites!

I greatly enjoy decor/design/architectural detail and have spent countless hours and even years pouring over home decor magazines, books, Pinterest and real estate websites “touring” homes for design ideas, inspiration and dream homes for myself and my friends and family for the past 18 years. I am passionate about houses and can find inspiration in each of their unique designs. I’ve brought a 1940’s cottage and a foreclosed 1970’s ranch house back to life after years of neglect. I even had a photo of my 1940’s cottage featured on the front page of the local newspaper! I enjoy the thrill of envisioning what others may not see in a home and bringing that vision to fruition with even the tiniest of a shoestring budget. Whether your budget allows for original pinewood, luxury vinyl plank, or humble ply board flooring, I’ve done them all with beautiful results and I know firsthand that restricted finances do not have to inhibit your vision. Inspiration and creativity can do what even the biggest budgets cannot do.

I’m a collector of vintage or unique decor and I love a good hunt to find a “one of a kind” piece of furniture or decor at an outdoor market, an antique shop or an estate sale in a tiny East Texas town.
